Abstract | Os Estados do Mato Grosso e Mato Grosso do Sul têm se destacado no cenário nacional como novos e potenciais produtores de cana-de-açúcar. Nestes estados se encontra um dos biomas mais ricos em fauna do Brasil, o Pantanal. Este ambiente não possui aptidão para uso agrícola, mas sua preservação depende do uso e cobertura da terra em sua bacia hidrográfica, a Bacia Pantaneira. Neste contexto, o estudo objetivou avaliar tanto a dinâmica espaço-temporal quanto a caracterização ambiental do cultivo da cana dentro da Bacia Pantaneira no período de 2005 a 2007. Para tanto, foram utilizados mapas temáticos da cana-de-açúcar, mapas de solos e mapas de declividade. Os resultados mostram que aproximadamente 35 mil ha da área cultivada com cana está sobre solos arenosos e que 46% desta área está localizada na faixa de 50 a 100 km da borda do Pantanal evidenciando um possível risco ambiental. Abstract The states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul are beginning to stand out as new potential producers of sugarcane and ethanol. One of the richest biomes in fauna is located in these states the Brazilian Pantanal. This environment is not suited for cultivation of sugarcane or any other crop. However, the conservation of the Pantanal is dependent on the land use cover change process that takes place in the Pantanal Watershed. In this context, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the spatial-temporal dynamic of sugarcane cultivation from 2005 to 2007 within the Pantanal Watershed. Sugarcane thematic maps, soil map, and slope map derived from radar data were used. The results show that nearly 35,000 ha of sugarcane are cultivated on sandy soils and 46% of this sugarcane is located between 50 and 100 km from the Pantanal boundary. This result indicates that although sugarcane is not being cultivated in the Pantanal the crop cultivated in higher parts of the watershed may present environmental risk to the Pantanal which is located in the lowland of the watershed. |
